God’s Medicine Cabinet: Simple Herbs That Calm the Chaos

Listen to the podcast version here

When life feels heavy, stressful, or overwhelming, sometimes you just need gentle reminders that God has already placed healing tools all around you. Today, we’re opening what I like to call God’s medicine cabinet — the herbs He created to bring peace, calm, and restoration to our bodies.

Let’s explore how these simple plants can help you breathe again.

How My Herbal Journey Truly Began

My journey with herbs didn’t start in a classroom. It started in my kitchen, holding my sick daughter, exhausted and praying for answers.

I had watched her little body go through round after round of harsh medications with side effects that made her miserable. One day, I said:

“Lord, there has to be another way.”

And He led me to herbs.

Chamomile for restlessness.
Warm teas for digestion.
Natural remedies for sleep.

I saw her respond.
I saw God’s mercy through nature.

That discovery led me to study, become a clinical herbalist, and eventually earn my doctorate — but my first teachers were desperation… and the Holy Spirit.

1. God Created Herbs for Our Healing

Herbs aren’t “new age.” They’re biblical.

Psalm 104:14 says:
“He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man.”

God created plants as part of His design for healing — long before modern medicine.

Frankincense and myrrh weren’t random gifts given to Jesus. They were healing agents.

So when you reach for an herb, you’re not stepping outside of God’s will — you’re stepping into His provision.

2. The Best Herbs to Calm Stress and Support Your Body

Here are some of the simplest, safest herbs to help soothe stress and bring calm back into your life.

Chamomile — The Gentle Peace Maker

Perfect for restlessness, sleep, digestion, and emotional overwhelm.

Ashwagandha — Your Stress Shield

An adaptogen that helps regulate stress hormones and keep your emotions balanced. Works best when taken consistently.

Holy Basil (Tulsi) — The “Holy Calm” Herb

Supports mental clarity, reduces anxiety, and brings a peaceful spiritual lift.

Lemon Balm — Emotional Sunshine

Great for anxious thoughts, mental chatter, and mood support.

Passionflower — Nervous System Soother

Helps quiet racing thoughts, support sleep, and calm the heart when stress is overwhelming.

💡 Herbal Starter Tip:
Try a tea blend of chamomile + lemon balm + passionflower before bed for deep, restorative rest.

Reminder: I’m not your medical doctor — always check with your provider before trying new herbs.

3. The Body–Mind–Spirit Connection

Sis, stress doesn’t just affect your mind. It affects:

  • Your hormones

  • Your digestion

  • Your sleep

  • Your energy

  • Your spiritual clarity

Herbs help your body shift out of fight-or-flight so your spirit can hear God again.

Because peace is not just emotional — it’s spiritual.

A Prayer for God’s Provision and Peace

“Lord, thank You for creating the earth with everything we need to thrive.
Thank You for the herbs that calm our spirits, renew our energy, and bring balance to our bodies.
Help my sister walk in wisdom as she learns to care for herself naturally and spiritually.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”

But, until next time, just remember sis:

It is not God's will for you to struggle.
It is not God's will for you to remain in survival mode.

You deserve rest, joy and peace and you have permission to take care of yourself.

I love you sis, and until next time, let your wellness be your worship.
